In May, we opened our British headquarters in Dover Street, in the heart of Mayfair in London.On the occasion of the “Asia Week,” in fact, we exhibited over 200 lots of our Oriental Art Auction held on 28 May, representing around 80% in value of the whole sale. It was the first time that we managed to bring almost the entire auction to London – with the catalogue translated both in English and Chinese – and results were very good. Many international buyers came to find us and filled their participation forms. But Dover Street will not only be used for previews and temporary exhibitions. From 15 September, it will become a permanent office of the Auction House for the international market, managed by Sebastian Cambi. It will be, therefore, a true point of reference for all foreign buyers attracted by the British market and for all the Italian buyers needing to operate in London city to sell or purchase works of art. In Dover street Cambi will not only be an Auction House, but it will also hold “private sales” for selected works. The autumn programme is already full of events. We will start on 16 September with the preview of a selection of works of the next Design Auction, which will be held in December, among which furniture by Fornasetti and furnishing by Gabriella Crespi, Gio Ponti and Fontana Arte. The exhibition, which will end on 24 September, is organized during “The London Design Festival”, a yearly event celebrating and promoting London as world capital of design.“The possibility of such a significant presence on the international market will bring great advantages in terms of sales,” says Pier Maria Scagliola, Head of the Department. We have to remember that more than 70% of our market is abroad, and being in London will represent a strong advantage for us.From 2 to 25 October, we are hosting the important exhibition “Fontana, Garelli, Leoncillo, Melotti” – organised by Repetto Gallery –, while in November we are organizing the usual preview of the Oriental Art Auction and in December an exhibition and sale of Old Masters, for which we are selecting the works to be sold by private treaty.
