L’iconografia del Cristo che mostra le piaghe comincia ad essere molto presente dal periodo gotico in poi, anche se le prime rappresentazioni sono sempre rilievi in pietra o legno. Le sculture a tutto tondo appaiono alla fine del XV secolo, soprattutto in Francia, Germania e Fiandre. La quasi totalità degli esempi superstiti mostra il Cristo coronato di spine e la nostra scultura si differenzia proprio per questo particolare perché il capo del Redentore è avvolto da un panno. La semplificazione in chiave meno patetica è uno dei tratti caratteristici dell’arte fiamminga. Anche il resto dei particolari del Cristo può far propendere per una derivazione dalle Fiandre: il torace e le linee del fisico sono molto arrotondate ed il viso molto allungato è molto distante dagli esempi della Borgogna o della bassa Francia.Altezza cm 68
