The Rotterdam designer Richard Hutten does not regard the design profession as problem-solving but as a way to stimulate the creativity of the user. The Sexy-Relaxy chair is a chair in one piece. The wedge-shaped slit in the seat is striking. When design- ing the chair, he was inspired by the spicy cigarette scene from the film 'Basic instinct' by Paul Verhoeven with Sharon Stone in the lead role. The chair was first presented during Tokyo design week in the year 2000. The chair has been exhibited widely and is part of the permanent collection of several museums, includ- ing Design Museum, London, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Designmuseum Genth, Belgium.
