The statue was realized for the Memorial of Famiglia Bolognesi in Faenza's cemetery in 1931/32
This sculpture is one of the most important plastic works by Melandri. Of the same period we remember Le Maschere del Vento at the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, the large bas-reliefs of Cassa Risparmio di Forlì and the monumental bas-relief of the Angel Announcing at the VII Triennale di Milano in 1940, now in a private collection.
Giovanni Bolognesi was the most important client of Pietro Melandri and his passionate collector until his death.

Questa scultura si pone tra le realizzazioni plastiche più importanti di Melandri di cui ricordiamo nello stesso periodo “Le Maschere del Vento” presso il Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche di Faenza, i grandi bassorilievi della Cassa Risparmio di Forlì e il monumentale bassorilievo dell’Angelo Annunciante esposto alla VII Triennale di Milano nel 1940, ora in collezione privata. Giovanni Bolognesi fu il più importante committente di Pietro Melandri e suo appassionato collezionista fino alla morte.
