NOTE: The so-called “Big Bubbleback” (or “Ovettone”, as it is known to Italian collectors) is the oversized edition of the iconic “Bubbleback”. Launched in 1933 with ref. 3131, it is distinguished by its dome-shaped – or bubble-shaped – case back, designed to accommodate the rotor, one of the great technical innovations of the time. Most of these pieces were manufacture in smaller sizes, following the fashion of the time. Reference 5030 boasts instead a remarkable 36 mm. diameter, making it a perfect mixture of vintage charm and modern appeal. These early example of Datejust do not feature the name on the dial yet and often have this beautifully aged light brown color to the dial associated with the correct luminous Alpha hands and the correct roulette date wheel.
