Plinio Codognato ( 1878- 1940) FIAT [GRAN PREMIO D’EUROPA]
First edition lithographic poster. 1923. Cm 138x97.
Stunning poster, here in the “ante litteram” version (the same version is preserved in Raccolta Salce Museum). The poster was actually designed thinking to a car competition; the “Gran premio d’Europa” that was held in Monza’s circuit in 1923; a Fiat 805 actually won the Gran prix. This is undoubtly the highest poster work of Codognato who smashes the watcher with two superfast cars in first sight.
Until today only two items of this poster have been sold at Auction; one of the same size as the offered here (sold June 1999, Bolaffi aste at Lit.80.000.000 plus premium) and another one of larger size (sold June 1999, Bolaffi aste at Lit. 220.000.000 plus premium); the two highest results for an Italian poster at Auction.
QUALITY: B+. Minimal tears, some light stains throughout, neverthless fresh colours. Linen-backed.
