La prova, nitida e brillante nell'unico stato conosciuto, è impressa su carta databile alla prima metà del Cinquecento. Tratto da un disegno della bottega di Raffaello ed eseguito in memoria del Sacco di Roma, costituisce un superbo esempio sul tema del memento mori.
