La prova, recante nel I stato di 2 il nome dello stampatore Lefrery e la data 1544, è impressa su carta filigrana Sole nel Cerchio databile alla prima meta del Cinquecento. Il soggetto, tratto da un disegno di Francesco Salviati, è stato per lungo tempo attribuito alla mano di un seguace di Marcantonio Raimondi, per essere restituito infine dalla Massari ad Enea Vico.
