T. Buzzi, Venini, Murano, 1932ca
Tomaso Buzzi (1900-1981). An exceptional vase from the Turchese e nero series, opaline glass cased in sapphire and green, in the shape of a drop. Applied asymmetrical mouth, truncated cone-shaped base and cordons in black glass. H 47cm. Acid-etched signature Venini Murano.
This vase is part of an extremely rare series, presented at the 18th Biennale Internazionale d'Arte di Venezia in 1932. The model that inspired Tomaso Buzzi for this piece is a silver Persian pitcher from the 10th/11th century, displayed at the Burlington House in London in 1931, which the author likely saw in print on the magazine Dedalo directed by Ugo Ojetti.
