Stack is a series of works on a monumental scale where the archetypal shape of the vessel is re-imagined in a spiral form. The vase, made up of many identical tubular elements, becomes a body, a three-dimensional torso with gestures and moods. "My process of working with clay offers a lot of resistance and reveals the forces over which I have no control - the unexpected elements of my inner being. My emotions and my feelings are physically conveyed in the artwork, and they become real expe- riences " (Torbjørn Kvasbø).
Through this process of transferring mental and physical energy into the sculpture, Kvasbø keeps alive the centuries-old tradition of the artist as an alchemist.
