1845 Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, founds the company A. Lange & Söhne, thus creating a whole culture and industry in Glashütte watchmaking. Initially the production created reliable and easy to repair watches, soon becoming known throughout Germany as the best watch manufacturer brand, and then get to produce some of the most complicated pocket watches in the world, including Grande Sonnerie watches, watches with tourbillon and Grande Complication.
On the last day of World War II, the factories were destroyed by Russian bombers and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand’s great-grandson, Walter Lange, re-established the brand with the aim of returning to producing high-quality luxury watches. Today part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are much sought after by collectors. Key models of the modern era include the Lange 1 (like our lot), the Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
The peculiarity of this watch is that it is the only Lange 1 36 mm product, this feature allows those who prefer a smaller size to wear this elegant watch in any occasion
