In the early 1950s, Breitling collaborated with the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) to make the slide rule of his Chronomat even more relevant to pilots.
The end result, the Navitimer, was a clock-instrument with an exceptional readability. The very first examples were equipped with a completely black dial, then the secondary registers became white to increase the contrast and make it even more readable. Similarly, the AOPA logo was replaced with the double-cast logo and the beaded bezel also evolved. Apart from these small cosmetic changes, the Navitimer remained virtually identical to its first project.
