More information
The Rolex Explorer was presented in 1953 after the historic and successful first ascent of Everest, to which Rolex was one of the official sponsors, by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, who faced this feat equipped with Oyster Perpetual timepieces.
Officially, Rolex provided thirteen watches to members of the expedition led by Colonel Sir John Hunt, six delivered to mountaineers from the previous expedition, Cho Oyu, and seven to members of the expedition that took home that historic milestone.
