After the great success of the Risorgimento Collection in March 2021, Friday 26 May 2023 arrives in the Milanese spaces of Cambi auction house the Postal History and Philately auction, which can be considered the second part of that lucky appointment.
This time the historical period dealt with is that of the battles for the independence of the Veneto and Venice from Austrian rule in 1848 - 1849, which are flanked by numerous quality pieces relating to the period of the Second and Third War of Independence with tariffs, postage and destinations rare.
Among the objects at auction are some great rarities such as a letter from Bologna to Paris dated 15 October 1859, franked with 20 baj di Romagne, sent during the period of the Provisional Government of Romagna, during which, while the pre-existing postal agreements between the Papal State and the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, it was still possible to send letters to France, or the rare mixed franking of the Provisional Government of Tuscany with stamps of Sardinia as in the registered mail from Castagneto to Livorno dated 15 March 1861.
The Kingdom of Italy is well represented by two almost complete stamp collections with items from 1861 to 1944 and by a fine selection of aerogrammes, which clearly demonstrate the great step taken in the history of communications. Also in the catalog is a complete collection of stamps in blocks of four from the Italian Republic and good series from San Marino and the Vatican.
In the second part of the auction an extraordinary collection of classic stamps from all over the world: Europe, British, French and German colonies, the Americas and Asia with specimens rarely offered in other Italian auction houses, which raise the variety of Cambi's proposals to European level.
Among the Top Lots of Postal History and Philately is a registered letter from Modena to Bazzano dated 8 February 1860 franked with one of the first 10-cent postage stamps from Sardinia (estimate 6,000/7,000 euros) and a circular from Teramo to Arcarano dated 7 February 1861 franked with a "cross" from the Garibaldi dictatorial period (estimate 3800/4300).
