On Wednesday, November 22, 2023, the Cambi Auction House's live auction Postal History and Philately returns to its Milan spaces, with a rich and sought-after catalog consisting of numerous quality pieces ranging from the very first stamps issued in 1840 by the British Postal Service, through the Risorgimento period and World War I and II. Also on auction are extreme quality pieces from the Italian occupation in China and highlights from the Italian Republic. Also worth mentioning is a fine selection of stamps from French colonies and a set of complete collections from the Italian area.

Notably among the items on offer are some great rarities such as an 1860 registered letter from Modena to Sassuolo dated March 8, 1860 (lot 85). Franked at the rate of four 10c ports plus the fixed 25c recommendation fee mailed between offices no more than 20 km apart, cancelled with the Sardinian supply tax stamp "2" repeated twice on the same stamp. Splendid tricolor franking, unique to date known.

Up for auction is a letter from Reggio to Modena dated October 5, 1859 (lot 35), during the Provisional Government period. Franked with pair of the 10c of the Duchy of Modena with dot after the numerals (S. 9), cancelled with the double circle stamp of Reggio. On verso, arrival stamp of October 6. Perfect specimens, great rarity.

Postal History Top Lots also include a letter from Campitello to Mantua dated August 6, 1863 (lot 77). Franked with 10 cents Sardinia in neighboring radius rate. On verso stamp in transit of Marcaria and of arrival in Mantua of the same day.

Also in the catalog is a valuable new almost complete collection of the Kingdom of Italy, 1861 to 1944 (lot 279). Largely made up of commemorative series with intact gum.0 Good appearances among the services, good to excellent quality,

The Republican period is well represented by a block of 10 examples of the "Gronchi rosa" offered at €2,500/3,000 together with blocks of Italian issues
