Our three-body timepiece has a sloping bezel, stoned horns and a snap-in case back. The polychrome enamel on gold dial depicts planes in the sky on a coastal map, the hour markers are applied in gold dots as are the baton hands. Creating a cloisonné enamel dial requires extreme skill, precision and talent. The artist first traces the outline of the motifs using a thin gold wire to separate the various regions of enamel, at which point several layers of enamel are applied according to the desired colours, followed by different types of firing in the kiln to intensify the effects that will be created through the colour, light and gradation of the enamel. This is a process of utmost care, as with each firing the dial may break, or the enamel may react differently to the heat, resulting in high rejection rates.
