Cambi's prestigious premises in Via San Marco 22 in Milan will host the eagerly awaited live auction dedicated to Vintage Posters and Pop Culture. The event will offer a careful selection of iconic works spanning the advertising graphics of the last century with a small POP selection representing a true journey through creativity and history.
Among the main lots in the Vintage Posters section are some highly valuable pieces that tell of unique historical and artistic moments. Lot 68, a 1921 lithographic poster printed by Stabilimenti Poligrafici Riuniti of Bologna, is a tribute to Italian aviation hero Francesco Baracca, famous for shooting down 34 enemy planes during the First World War. Measuring 137 x 100 cm and framed, this rare B+ quality poster is estimated at between €10,000 and €18,000.
Another significant work is Lot 39, a poster created by the famous illustrator Leopoldo Metlicovitz for the Feste Centenarie di Busseto in honour of Giuseppe Verdi's centenary in 1913. Printed by Officina G. Ricordi & C. of Milan, this 205 x 145 cm lithographic poster, telato and A/B quality, depicts Verdi's cultural and historical importance for Italy and music. The estimate is between €9,000 and €15,000.
Also of note is Lot 70, a lithographic poster signed Umberto Di Lazzaro for the 1930 Transatlantic Air Cruise. Printed in Rome by Off. Graf. I.G.A.P., this 200 x 140 cm specimen, telatographed and of A/B quality, is valued between €4,000 and €8,000, bringing to memory an important feat of Italian aviation.
In Lot 25, is a rare and fascinating example of Marcello Dudovich's artistic production, entitled ‘Fonotipia Dischi Artistici: a lithographic poster made in 1906 and printed by the famous Officine G. Ricordi & C. in Milan. This large poster (144 x 103 cm) presents a conservation quality classified as A/B. With elegant Art Nouveau graphics, typical of Dudovich's style, this piece embodies the spirit of artistic advertising in the early 20th century. The auction estimate for the lot is between €4,000 and €8,000.
