Cambi Auction House is pleased to announce the prestigious event L'Art de la Table, to be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Castello Mackenzie in Genoa. One of the most anticipated auctions on Cambi's Genovese calendar, this occasion represents a true tribute to the elegance and art of mise en place through an exclusive selection of tableware. With as many as 421 lots in the catalog, the auction invites enthusiasts and collectors to explore a unique collection of porcelain, silverware and timeless decorative art objects. The auction will be divided into two rounds: the first session at 10 a.m. with lots 1 to 176, and the second session at 2:30 p.m. with lots 177 to 421.

Among the outstanding lots is lot 58, a set of twenty-six silver plates from the renowned Milanese silversmith Broggi, made in the first half of the 20th century. The plates, made of cast, shaped and finely chiseled silver, feature a mixtilinear rim decorated with elegant rocaille motifs, ribbing and shells. Preserved in its original case with chiseled plate, the set is estimated at between 10,000 and 12,000 euros.

Among the must-see lots is lot 242, a rare “Palladiana” table service designed by Piero Fornasetti and produced by Manifattura Rosenthal between 1970 and 1979. Consisting of 71 pieces, the service features the characteristic architectural motif inspired by Palladio's buildings in Vicenza, combining classical rigor and rounded lines. This combination of modern design and architectural tradition gives the service a unique charm. The estimate for this lot is between 14,000 and 15,000 euros.

Finally, an absolute highlight lot is lot 174, a monumental cutlery service from the Maison Odiot in Paris, consisting of 373 pieces in chased and gilded silver. The work represents one of the most important examples of 19th-century French goldsmith production, with the collaboration of silversmith Jean Gravigne. Preserved in its original oak boxes and decorated with elegant rocaille details, the service has an estimate of 18,000-20,000 euros.

Concluding the series of top lots is lot 173, a majestic French surtout de table in gilt bronze and ground crystal, dated to the 19th century. Inspired by neo-Baroque taste, the sumptuous ensemble consists of candelabras and risers carved with mythological figures, vine branches and cornucopias, evoking an evocative allegorical arcadia of happiness and abundance. The lot, commissioned by one of Lombardy's leading noble families, is estimated at between 30,000 and 40,000 euros.
