Introduced in 1963 in the United States, the Cosmograph 6239 is Rolex's first waterproof chronograph with a tachymeter scale engraved on the bezel. Initially not bearing the inscription “Daytona” on the dial, it was later christened with this name in honor of the historic Florida racetrack to fully embody the spirit of motor racing.The present example of 6239 features one of the earliest versions of dials without precisely the inscription “Daytona” and for this reason it is nicknamed “Le Mans” by collectors. This specimen mounts a classic silver-colored dial and contrasting black subdials, one of the most popular configurations among enthusiasts who sympathetically call it “Panda.”
