More information
Dials with double signatures are always highly sought after by collectors and the one featured here is a true rarity. This is a very special Datejust that features the signature ‘Serpico & Laino’ on the dial. Serpico y Laino was an important Rolex dealer in Caracas, Venezuela.
Vicente Laino was a goldsmith of Italian origin who emigrated to Venezuela, like many Italians at the time, in search of a better future. Upon arrival in Caracas, he met his compatriot Leopoldo Serpico. Together they started a jewellery and watch shop in the country's capital and at one point became a famous shop; they could order Rolexes and Patek Philippe with the name of their dealer on the dial, but only a few were authorised to do so.
The dial, signed Serpico Y Laino on the upper half of the dial, has over time taken on a warm patina typical of watches from countries with tropical climates that are often exposed to the elements such as sun and humidity. The watch retains a beautiful case and good definition of the fluted ‘Thousand Rows’ bezel in white gold.
