More information
Launched in the late 1960s, references 6263 and 6265 replaced the first Oyster Cosmograph model, the 6240. These two references were produced together and differed only in the type of tachymeter bezel they could mount, black acrylic for ref 6263 and steel for ref 6265.
Presented in almost immaculate condition the present specimen features the most sought-after “Big Red” dial, which differs from its predecessors by the very prominent red Daytona lettering above the counter at 6 o'clock. In addition to the silvered dial the present watch is also accompanied by a black “Big Red” dial and a steel bezel for 6265.
The watch case looks as it did when it left the factory as there are no signs of polishing and it is evident that the watch has only been worn a few times. The lugs are full and the satin finish is the original so much so that you can still see the bevel on the inside of the lug. The silvered dial is in excellent condition and all of the tritiums are intact and full as well as having a beautiful patina.
Presented for the first time at auction, it is complete with all original accessories, including the original guarantee certificate and box. This is an extremely rare and timeless specimen for those looking for a collectible Cosmograph Daytona.
