This very rare steel Ovettone has a very rare and unusual feature, which is the presence of the indication both in the centre and at the bottom. This feature, which is difficult to explain, is however confirmed by the presence of a double reference engraved on the case. Reference 5028 in fact is known to be equipped with central seconds while reference 5026 is equipped with a small seconds counter at six o'clock. In this specific case, however, it can be seen that the reference written on the case 5028 is crossed out and a 6 has been added as if to signify that it was a hybrid reference. Probably an experiment by Rolex or perhaps a prototype, it is certainly a rare collector's watch.
A similar model with the same characteristics was sold by the well-known auction house Monaco Legend Group for 123,500 Euros in October 2023.
