Discendente di una nobile famiglia fiorentina, Paolo Sebastiano Arrighi fu dottore in Teologia e divenne uno dei membri più eminenti dell'Università dei Teologi di Firenze. Fu denominato "dilettante stillatore" per la sua capacità di concentrare il sapere divino e a questa definizione sembra alluda il rovescio di questa medaglia.
