A true highlight of this auction is the presentation of an extraordinary collection of medals spanning centuries of history—from the Renaissance to the Baroque period and into the modern age. Particularly valuable is the section dedicated to papal medals, genuine works of art born from a greater creative freedom compared to coin production. Unlike coins, medals were not intended for economic circulation, but served as tools of celebration and communication, allowing engravers to fully express their mastery and artistic personality. The catalogue features examples of exceptional quality: from highly refined portraits to sculpted narratives of key events in the history of Christianity and Italy.

Among the most prestigious pieces is a silver medal of Pius VII (lot 1177), dated 1807, depicting the restoration works of the Colosseum. The engraving skill of Mercandetti is extraordinarily evident, capturing with meticulous precision all the architectural details of the Flavian Amphitheatre's façade. Another outstanding piece is the medal of Clement VIII (lot 878), minted in 1598 to commemorate the Devolution of the Duchy of Ferrara to the Papal States—an event of great political importance, splendidly immortalized by Giorgio Rancetti. Also of significant historical and iconographic interest is the medal of Gregory XIII (lot 854), dedicated to the reform of the Catholic clergy, while the medal of Pius V (lot 846) powerfully recounts the victory of the Holy League at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571—one of the most emblematic moments in Christian and Western history.
