La Camera di Commercio di Roma fu istituita 3 luglio 1831 con lo scopo di vigilare sul buon andamento e sulla prosperità del commercio. Essa era diretta da un consiglio elettivo di 15 membri (XV VIRIS), i quali rimanevano in carica un periodo limitato e venivano scelti fra i commercianti romani più celebri e onesti.
