PAVLO VENETO PAPE II ITALICE PACIS FVNDATORI Busto di Paolo II a d., con il capo nudo ed il piviale decorato da arabeschi. Sotto il busto, ROMA. R/ Anepigrafe. Raffigurazione mitologica rappresentante il dio Apollo con la cetra e lo sconfitto flautista Marsia legato ad un albero. Opus Cristoforo di Geremia (diritto) realizzata nel 1468 (?). CNORP I, 101. Rarissima. g. 32,78. Misure mm. 39,06 x 33. Bronzo. Fusione antica. q.SPL

Il rovescio di questa medaglia nasce come un calco ricavato da una gemma antica raffigurante l'episodio mitologico di Apollo e Marsia; gemma appartenuta probabilmente a Paolo II ed in seguito ceduta dal suo successore Sisto IV ai Medici. (da A. Modesti, CNORP I pag. 277).
