Scroll depicting peonies on a gilt ground with inscriptions and seals, China, Qing Dynasty, 19th century.
Liu Haisu (March 16, 1896 – August 7, 1994), originally named Liu Pan, had the courtesy name Jifang and the art name Haiweng (海翁, “Old Man of the Sea”). His studio names included Yihaitang (艺海堂, “Hall of the Sea of Art”) and Cuntiange (“Pavilion of Preserving Heaven”).
