More information
The "Type XX" was born as a project code from the French Ministry of Defense to define the strict standards for chronographs destined for its Air Force. In 1954, following the first prototypes, the French Air Force placed a significant order with Breguet for 1,100 pieces marked with the reference number 5101/54, of which the lot presented here represents a very rare and excellent example.
This military version was distinguished by a 38.3 mm case, the Valjoux 222 caliber with flyback function, a pear-shaped crown, and a dial free of logos or inscriptions to ensure maximum legibility.
The history of this specific lot is engraved on its case back: here, in fact, are the deadlines for periodic checks marked with the initials FG (Fin de Garantie). With entries covering almost every two years from 1956 to 1982, the watch bears witness to over twenty years of fascinating and documented service in the French skies.
