This refined table clock belongs to Cartier's very earliest production of enameled square cases dating back to the early 20th century. In this specific historical period, the Maison produced these models in three sizes (7 cm, 8,5 cm, and 9 cm) featuring light-colored dials and the use of chased gold bezels, before variants with enameled bezels began to appear around 1913.

The sunburst guilloché decoration beneath the translucent enamel gives the case an iridescent luminosity which, combined with the hands embellished with diamonds, bears witness to the extremely high level of craftsmanship and sophisticated aesthetic research with which Cartier redefined the art of table clockmaking of the era.
