Cambi opens the autumn season of its Design Department with “20th-Century Design”, an auction dedicated to furniture, lighting and decorative objects tracing some of the most significant expressions of Italian and international design.

The selection spans different periods, styles and materials, bringing together works by some of the leading figures of 20th-century design. Highlights from the lighting section include a bubble-textured Murano glass pendant lamp by Archimede Seguso, dating from around 1940, a pair of Stilnovo wall lamps from the 1950s, and the iconic Gatto table lamp, designed in 1962 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos.

The 1950s and 1960s are also represented by a Cani cache-pot by Piero Fornasetti, a low table by Fontana Arte, and a set of four chairs by Gio Ponti for Fratelli Reguitti. Also by Ponti are two Cavallo sculptures, produced by Lino Sabattini in 1978.

The journey continues into the 1980s with a pair of bedside tables by Pierre Cardin and two Ghinus armchairs by Gino Ganelli for Comfortline, before reaching the early 2000s with a set of six Eros armchairs by Philippe Starck for Kartell.

Taken as a whole, the auction offers a wide-ranging overview of 20th-century design, bringing together historic names, iconic creations and furnishings that continue to resonate with contemporary interiors. The catalogue traces the evolution of taste and design culture through forms, materials and objects that helped shape the identity of modern design.

The “20th-Century Furnishings” auction will take place in Genoa on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in a single session starting at 2:00 PM. Bidding is available through written bids, the My Cambi online platform and partner platforms. Condition reports are available online.
