A private collection spanning different fields and periods becomes a tangible opportunity to support a charitable cause. On Wednesday, 14 October, in two sessions, Cambi Auction House will present the live auction “Jewellery, Silver, Furniture and Works of Art. A Bequest for Charitable Purposes” in Genoa, featuring more than 700 lots from a bequest intended to benefit charity.
The catalogue brings together jewellery and precious stones, silverware, furniture, works of art and collectibles—pieces that reflect the tastes, passions and memories behind a private collection. Highlights include rings set with diamonds and emeralds, jewellery suites, necklaces and brooches, as well as silverware and decorative objects.
Among the jewellery highlights are a ring set with an old-cut diamond weighing approximately 6.07 carats, estimated at €15,000–16,000; a ring set with a brilliant-cut diamond weighing approximately 7.18 carats, estimated at €12,000–13,000; and a diamond rivière with a total weight of approximately 20 carats, estimated at €3,700–4,500. The catalogue also features a diamond-set evening bag signed Zendrini, estimated at €20,200–25,000.
The decorative silver section also includes candelabra, centrepieces, trays and a table ornament in the form of a Neo-Baroque amphora, reflecting a culture of domestic living in which function and ornament are closely intertwined. Among the silver highlights is an important surtout de table, bearing London hallmarks for 1875 and the mark of silversmith Robert Garrard, estimated at €5,200–6,000.
The section devoted to furniture and decorative objects traces the collection through furnishings and accessories designed for the home and table. Notable lots include four glass works signed by Émile Gallé, as well as a richly carved 20th-century bed, a pair of Chesterfield bergère armchairs bearing the Barcalounger mark, and an English-made Chesterfield suite.
