Description
Amethyst Sphere
W. 11 cm
SiO₂ (amethyst variety) — trigonal system (large, cut specimen)
Origin
"Store Didoni" Collection, Macherio (MB)
More information
A sphere carved from a block of amethyst, likely from Brazil or Uruguay, shaped through gradual abrasion and polishing on a gem-cutting lathe. The spherical shape, achieved through uniform processing of the entire surface, highlights the gemstone’s internal characteristics, bringing out its color zoning, growth structures, and inclusions.
The creation of spheres of this type requires the use of amethyst blocks that are intact and free of significant fractures—a relatively rare material.
Trigonal system; hardness 7 on the Mohs scale; density 2.65 g/cm³.
A specimen with a striking visual presence, particularly well-suited for mineralogical collections, crystal therapy, formal settings, and interior design projects.
