More information
Typically found in the Alps (Aosta Valley, Austria), Norway, and Mexico, it is a typical
low- to medium-grade metamorphic mineral (green schists, skarn) formed by the alteration of plagioclase and feldspar minerals. Hardness 6–7 on the Mohs scale, density 3.4–3.5 g/cm³, characteristic pistachio green color, striated prismatic habit.

Occasionally used in jewelry for its transparent gem-quality varieties; very common as a collector’s mineral due to its distinctive color; an important petrological indicator of metamorphic conditions.
