Description

Large rose quartz sphere

SiO₂ — trigonal system (pink variety, often massive)
Origin
"Store Didoni" Collection, Macherio (MB)
More information
Typically found in Brazil (Minas Gerais), Madagascar, and the United States (South Dakota), this is the pink variety of quartz, almost always occurring in massive form (rarely as well-formed crystals). According to the most recent studies, its color is attributed to extremely fine fibrous inclusions of a borosilicate from the dumortierite group dispersed throughout the crystal lattice, which selectively scatter light (the Tyndall effect); older theories attributed it to traces of titanium, iron, or manganese. It forms in granitic pegmatites through late hydrothermal crystallization. Hardness 7 on the Mohs scale, density 2.65 g/cm³.

One of the most common varieties of quartz used in jewelry and decorative items (beads, hearts, boxes) due to its delicate and versatile color; It is very popular in crystal therapy as a stone associated with love and harmony; it is prized by collectors, especially for large specimens with intense, uniform color.
