Description
''Leibernetico'' Porphyry
Cm 4,5X3,5X7
Igneous rock (quartz + feldspar) — porphyritic texture; name not verified in geological literature
More information
Likely a local/trade quarry name, from the Alpine region (Trentino-Alto Adige). We found no record of this exact name in standard geological literature: it is most likely a local name for a variety of quartz porphyry (a volcanic rock with quartz and feldspar phenocrysts in a fine-grained groundmass), of the type widespread in the Athesian porphyry platform (Permian, roughly 280 million years old). We recommend confirming the exact quarry of origin for a precise petrographic classification.
If confirmed as a local porphyry , typical uses include paving, cladding, and outdoor design due to its high mechanical strength; an interesting piece for regional collections of Italian ornamental stones.
