Description

Two pieces of agate geode

SiO₂ (chalcedony/agate) — fibrous microcrystalline structure
More information
Typically sourced from Brazil, Uruguay, Morocco, and Madagascar, these are cut and polished sections of geodes containing agate—a microcrystalline variety of quartz—deposited in concentric bands within volcanic cavities through the cyclic precipitation of colloidal silica colored by metal oxides.

Widely used for bookends, coasters, and decorative items; prized by collectors for its endless variety of patterns; sometimes artificially dyed to intensify the colors.
