More information
Nephrite jade is a variety of jade composed primarily of minerals from the amphibole group. It is known for its great toughness and impact resistance, characteristics that have made it valuable since ancient times.
Its colors range from light green to dark green, but it can also appear in shades of white, gray, yellow, or brownish. Quality is assessed based on color, uniformity, transparency, luster, and the absence of visible fractures or inclusions.
Nephrite is used primarily for jewelry, decorative objects, sculptures, and artistic artifacts. In many cultures, particularly in China, it is considered a symbol of purity, prosperity, and protection.
The main deposits are found in China, Canada, Russia, and New Zealand.
Its economic value varies considerably: common specimens may be worth just a few euros per kilogram, while high-quality material intended for jewelry or artistic carving can reach hundreds or thousands of euros per kilogram. Particularly rare, antique, or masterfully crafted pieces can command much higher prices.
