Description

White Agate Cup

SiO₂ (banded chalcedony) — fibrous microcrystalline structure, trigonal system
Origin
"Store Didoni" Collection, Macherio (MB)
More information
Typically found in Brazil, India, Uruguay, and Madagascar, it is the white, translucent variety of agate, whose milky, hazy appearance is due to the extremely fine fibrous structure of chalcedony and the almost total absence of coloring metal oxides. It forms through the cyclic precipitation of colloidal silica in cavities within volcanic rocks, resulting in thin, concentric, and delicate bands that are often visible against the light as bluish-gray or pearlescent hues. Hardness 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale, density 2.6 g/cm³, good workability and polishability.

Prized for its purity and soft luminosity, it is widely used for cups, bowls, and carved objects, where its translucency enhances the delicate thickness of the craftsmanship; popular in interior design and the collecting of stone artifacts; associated in crystal therapy with calm and balance
