2013 really looks like a year of Records. On 20 July the newspaper “Il Sole 24 Ore” put us in the first place among Italian Auction Houses in terms of turnover, as a result of a series of important auctions that took place during the first months of the year. The Departments of Jewels, Modern and Contemporary Art, Old Master Paintings, Furniture and Furnishings, Design, Silvers and Frames and Mirrors, had their top adjudications in this first half. China is an outsider with its numerous sales that made a sensation in Italy and abroad and that placed the Auction House on top in Europe, together with the well-established London and Paris realities. From the end of 2012 through the first semester of 2013, we organized many successful auctions, from the collection of a Bolognese art connoisseur, with Massimo Bartolozzi as auctioneer, to the Bruzzone Collection, with 90% of the lots sold and a loaded salesroom, to finish with the specialized auctions concerning two majolica and frames collections that doubled their initial estimates. I don’t want to forget the excellent results of Design that, thanks to an almost entirely foreign public, brought us at the height of the national auction houses. Apart from the auctions, we also have many major news. We changed the calendar of the new sales, by setting two annual appointments for Fine Arts Auctions and splitting in two semesters all other sales, from Old Masters to Design, in line with the current trend of the market, which is becoming more and more international. Tiziano Panconi and Gianni Minozzi joined the staff of our experts; they will respectively run the 19th and 20th-century Paintings departments and the Old Master Paintings one. Massimo Bartolozzi became our representative in Tuscany. In September, we opened a new office in Turin – in via Giolitti, corner piazza San Carlo – managed by Titti Curzio. Here, point of reference for all our Turin clients, we won’t organize sales but previews and expertise days with all the experts of the various departments. But November is going to be the month of major novelties, since we are going to open the new headquarters in Milan in Palazzo Serbelloni, in corso Venezia. On 2 December a Silvers, Clocks and Jewels Auction and a selection of Antiques is taking place in the beautiful rooms of the first floor. This double appointment starts off a series of auctions and the transfer to Milan of some departments. Moreover, in this issue, Raffaella Navone shows us the fascinating diamond- cutting, continuing the series of essays on stones we are getting accustomed to, while Michela Scotti wrote a homage to Antonio Dias, whose paintings were and will be protagonists of our Contemporary Art Auctions. Andrea Pietro Mori, in his article on Design, spotlights Ignazio Gardella, while Giulio Cambi wrote a short biography of Peter Beard, whose photographs were sold during the last Contemporary Art Auction. We will then describe a collection of Genoese drawings included in the next catalogue of Old Master Paintings in October and some lots in the one of Sculpture and Art Objects. Finally, we have some news also concerning the web, with the new app Cambi App for iPhone an iPad, which allows to see the lots online, to download the catalogues and the magazine and to attend the auctions through our service Cambi Live, even improved and bug-fixed. From September, you may also find a new way to take part in the auctions: with Cambi Time we will propose a series of Time Auctions – with consultation and participationsolelyonline–thatwillexpiretwoweeksaftertheirpublication.To participate, it is necessary to be a member of My Cambi; you will be informed if your bid will be overrun with a series of raisings that will become more and more intense in the hours before the end of the auction.
