Modern and Contemporary Art

Cambi Auction House periodically organises auctions and sales dedicated to modern and contemporary art, a sector in strong expansion in recent years, which has given us great satisfaction. The first auctions of modern and contemporary art organized by Cambi Auction House date back to the early 2000s, but it is since 2008, with the arrival of Michela Scotti, an expert in modern art, that monographic sales become consistent appointments and the dedicated Department has experienced a significant growth. Also decisive was the contribution of Daniele Palazzoli who, starting in 2017, brought to Cambi the experience gained in the historic Galleria Blu in Milan, theater and witness to many changes and mutations in the art market since the 1960s.

Modern and contemporary art auction catalogs bring together paintings, sculptures and graphics, carefully selected works by the most famous Italian and international authors of the 20th century. The works that we select for the two annual auctions belong to the great artists of the twentieth century, including Pablo Picasso and Lucio Fontana, Alighiero Boetti, Pietro Manzoni, Enrico Castellani, Giorgio De Chirico, Umberto Boccioni, Giuseppe Santomaso, Parmeggiani Tancredi, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Antonio Dias, Afro Basaldella and Alexander Calder, whose works come from trusts and private collections.
Often, in the catalogs of modern and contemporary art auctions, besides the avant-gardes of the 20th century, emerging artists and less-known authors are also proposed; this represents an opportunity for collectors who wish to purchase artworks at auction that require lower investments, but always of excellent quality. It is precisely the quality of the works in our modern and contemporary art auctions that distinguish the Department: Cambi's experts offer a free evaluation service for works of modern and contemporary art, with the aim of collecting pieces of great artistic, economic and cultural value to be proposed in dedicated sales.

Among the most important sales of contemporary art auctions, we must mention the canvas by Antonio Dias that reached the world record of sale for the author, the beautiful Hector and Andromache by Giorgio de Chirico, sold for €262,000, the large embroidery by Alighiero Boetti, sold for €312,000, and again two masterpieces by Antonio Donghi and Cagnaccio di San Pietro that set the world record for the two artists. E must also mention some of the most recent sales that offered great satisfaction in July 2021, namely the Portrait of Elba signed Antonio Ligabue, sold for €106,350 and the oil on canvas signed Georges Mathieu, sold for €77,600.
