biography
Allen Jones, born in Southampton, UK, in 1937, is a leading figure of the British Pop Art movement. Educated at Hornsey College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London, he emerged in the 1960s as one of the pioneers of British Pop Art. His work is known for its bold exploration of the human form through painting, sculpture, and printmaking, often featuring striking visual impact and themes of desire and identity. In 1963, he was awarded the prestigious Prix des Jeunes Artistes at the Paris Biennale, which established his international reputation.

Jones is best known for his provocative and fetishistic sculptures of women as furniture, which caused significant controversy upon their debut in 1970. Beyond sculpture, he has produced a wide range of paintings and prints influenced by Surrealism, German Expressionism, and popular culture, including fashion and advertising. His works are held in major public collections such as Tate Britain, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

A Royal Academician since 1986, Jones has also taught at various international institutions including the University of Hamburg and the University of South Florida. His career spans over six decades and continues to shape contemporary visual culture, with retrospectives at prestigious venues like Tate Britain and the Serpentine Gallery. The Cambi auction house in Milan has featured several sales of his works, underscoring his significance in the contemporary art market.
