St Peter Martyr, gilt copper round plate, central Italian art, 17th century
diametro cm 22.San Pietro Martire (Verona 1205 - Seveso 1252), domenicano, si contrappose per tutta la sua vita all'eresia catara. I suoi simboli classici sono la palma del martirio, il libro di studio e, soprattutto, la roncola in testa, che ricorda la modalità del suo martirio. Famosissimo è il suo sepolcro, realizzato da Giovanni di Balduccio nella basilica di Sant'Eustorgio a Milano.
