The art world is facing an extremely positive season and after the success achieved last season, Casa d'Aste Cambi is preparing the spring auction of 19th and 20th century paintings which includes numerous works from private collections. An extremely interesting auction thanks to the variety of artists proposed and to their uniqueness. They are in fact unpublished works, which have never appeared on the market before, and exhibited for the first time in the Cambi headquarters in Genoa.
Among the curiosities that Cambi offers for next spring, we mention a particularly beautiful series of pastels by Giuseppe Casciaro (lots from 70 to 80). Casciaro is a Neapolitan artist who should be compared to Pratella, Palizzi, Domenico Morelli that possessed an extremely folkloric and at the same time vivid painting, in which we perceive the atmospheric change and the way of life and the reality of humble people who lived in these streets of Naples, in its villages, in the countryside. An atmosphere that can be defined as dreamy, but always linked to the customs of the Neapolitan civilization and to that folklore that was typical of Neapolitan Naturalism of the late nineteenth century. This series of pastels is divided into a series of landscapes, city and marine views that well represent all of Casciaro's pastel activity.
Among the most important works, Cambi presents a beautiful still life by Llewelyn Lloyd (lot 38), a painter from Livorno who studied with Guglielmo Micheli and had among his fellow students Oscar Ghiglia and Amedeo Modigliani. An extremely refined artist, whose works live on colour, on expressive strength, on intense colours, borrowed from French Expressionism but which find new geometries with Llewelyn Lloyd, which make these paintings particularly elegant and sophisticated. He takes us into a world made up of literary cafés, that type of aesthetic culture that gained wide acceptance among the Livorno artists of the early twentieth century.
