Produced for a short period only at the end of the fifties, the reference 5510 is characterized by a large crown without protecting crown guards.
Some models were certified chronometer, while others were labeled "Submariner" along with depth classification: these variants are known as "Two Liner". Produced only for a few years, the reference 5510 is immediately recognizable and characterized by the black lacquered Gilt dial, the absence of the crown guards and the "large" Brevet crown of 8 millimeters.
Research suggests that reference 5510 was produced in an extremely small series of less than 300 pieces.
This particular specimen has sharp and sharp bevels, incredibly large in their proportions. In addition, it still retains the original crown. The luminous material of the hands and numerals is aged with a warm patina.
The Submariner Big Crown has a special place in the hearts of Rolex collectors, having been immortalized in several James Bond films, also worn by Sean Connery in "License to Kill". Bond’s gadget is notoriously disguised as a "Big Crown" Submariner, equipped with different spying abilities.
