Questa medaglia celebra l'ingresso a Roma del nuovo papa avvenuto il 3 luglio 1800. Per commemorare tale evento venne infatti commissionata all'architetto Benedetto Piernicoli la costruzione di un imponente arco di trionfo, opera che si colloca pienamente in quel clima ottocentesco di richiamo al mondo classico.
