On Thursday, June 26, 2025, Cambi Auction House devotes an entire day to Old Master painting, presenting two highly prestigious sales: “Dipinti Antichi” and “Old Masters” — two distinct yet complementary catalogs offering a full immersion into the world of painting and drawing from the Renaissance to the early 19th century.

The works will be on public view at the Genoa headquarters, Castello Mackenzie, with free admission on Friday 20, Saturday 21, Monday 23, and Wednesday 25 June, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

At 4:30 PM, the single session of the “Old Masters” sale will follow, featuring works from Italian and European schools dating from the 15th to the early 19th century. The catalog includes exceptional masterpieces, such as The Four Elements by Domenico Piola (lot 325, estimate €45,000–50,000), a magnificent example of 17th-century Genoese painting. In this canvas, Piola theatrically stages the allegorical personifications of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, rendered with luminous figures and rich symbolism.

Also emotionally powerful is the Male Portrait by Jusepe de Ribera, known as Lo Spagnoletto (lot 284, estimate €30,000–60,000): an intense work in which the timeworn face of the subject emerges from a neutral background with the dramatic realism typical of the Spanish painter’s maturity. In the realm of devotional painting, Saint Cecilia by Sebastiano Conca (lot 305, estimate €30,000–40,000) stands out as a symbol of late Baroque spiritual and musical aesthetics, depicting the patron saint of musicians with grace and theatricality.

The selection is completed by two captivating works: The Death of Lucretia by Bartolomeo Biscaino (lot 328, estimate €20,000–25,000), a powerful historical scene rendered with dramatic and refined pictorial language, and Old Man with a Lantern by Antonio Cifrondi (lot 337, estimate €12,000–15,000), which vividly captures the introspective face of old age.
