More information
Typical of the Alps (Switzerland, northern Italy, Austria), this mineral occurs in alpine-type hydrothermal clefts formed during the Alpine orogeny (Tertiary) by low-temperature fluid circulation in metamorphic rocks. Hardness 4 Mohs, density 3.18 g/cm³, often forming green, purple, or colorless cubic or octahedral crystals, with characteristic UV fluorescence.
