On May 4 the catalogue Sculpture of 19th 20th century will be auctioned.
Top lot of the auction, a striking bronze sculpture cast and patinated in 1895: it is The work, by Benedetto Civiletti (estimate: 30,000 - 40,000 €)
The bronze artwork, whose plaster sketch was presented at the Venice exhibition in 1895, must have been part of a majestic celebratory monument, unfortunately unfinished, dedicated to the entrepreneur and politician Vincenzo Florio. Of this work were performed by Civiletti two examples, one now located in Piazza Castelnuovo in Palermo and our commissioned by Ignazio Florio placed in the garden of Villa Florio in Favignana.

Of great impact is also Edward Thaxter’s marble group, Love’s First Dream (estimate: 15,000 - 20,000 €). The author, who died very young at only 24 years, in his short career was able to distinguish himself as one of the promises of the American school of sculpture.
