The Old Masters auction is back, the highly awaited appointment for collectors and fans of ancient painting, of the Department of Antique Paintings and Drawings of Cambi Auction House, third for turnover during the first half of 2022.

A section of the catalogue will be dedicated to some important collections from private collections, such as the nucleus of four female and male portraits by the Bolognese Gaetano Gandolfi (oil on canvas, estimates from 30,000 to 50,000 euros) or the series of paintings made by Alessandro Piazza, a painter active in Venice at the turn of the 18th century, of which little is known to this day but whose scenes, teeming with characters and set in the possessions of the Serenissima Republic, are now immediately recognizable (estimates from 20,000 to 30,000 euros).

There will also be some works by important Genoese masters of the seventeenth century, such as the painting by Giovanni Battista Paggi, which depicts The dispute between Apollo and Pan (oil on canvas, estimate: 20,000-30,000 euros), a Madonna and Child between Saint Anthony and Saint Rose by Domenico Piola (oil on canvas, estimate: 15,000-20,000 euros), a painting on slate depicting the Virgin with Jesus Child and Saint Luke signed Valerio Castello (estimate: 20,000-30,000 euros)a large canvas depicting Saul anointed by King Solomon by Giovanni Andrea de Ferrari (oil on canvas, estimate: 15,000-20,000 euros) and a painting by Giuseppe Badaracco with the Triumph of David over Goliath (oil on canvas, estimate: 10,000-15,000 euros).

Among the top lots of the sale, finally, certainly stand out for importance a couple of magnificent Roman landscapes made by Andrea Locatelli (oil on canvas, estimate: 60,000-80,000 euros) a large painting by Marco Ricci depicting an alpine landscape (oil on canvas, estimate: 30,000-40,000 euros), a sumptuous still life with musical instruments and carpets signed Francesco Fieravino (oil on canvas, estimate: 20,000-30,000 euros) and, at the end of the catalog, a refined male portrait signed by the artist Giuseppe Molteni (oil on cardboard, estimate: 4.000- 6.000 euros).

The works presented in the catalog will be viewable from 9 to 11 December (opening hours: 10 am -7 pm) at Castello Mackenzie.
