More information
Gerardo Dottori designed these furnishings in the early 1930s at the request of Guido Cimino, one of his main collectors and an art-loving lawyer who, seduced by the vitality of modern Futurist art, was a methodical buyer and commissioner of his paintings from 1915 to 1960, such as Volo sull'oceano (Flight over the Ocean) from 1929, which was sold by Cambi in July 2025 for a record €250,100 and came from the same property. The client asked Dottori to transfer the colours and dynamism into the heart of the house, the space intended to bring together a large family of eight siblings, a mother and a father around the dining table every day, always ready to add an extra place for the guest of the day. For this reason, it was necessary to create furniture that could comfortably seat up to 12 people at a time. The furniture was made in-house under the direction of Gerardo Dottori and the client's cousin, an engineer, and the best craftsmen in the area were called upon, with no detail left to chance. The colours were applied by skilled carpenters using a special process that allows the wood grain to show through. The design is futuristic, even down to the door handles. Passed down through the client's family, with public exhibitions such as the important exhibition on Futurism at the Guggenheim in New York (Italian Futurism, 1909–1944: Reconstructing the Universe - New York, 2014), this precious furniture has miraculously survived intact and complete with all its elements: sideboard; counter sideboard; extendable square table with 12 chairs; two side tables; two ladder-shaped display stands; two wall lights; a central chandelier and two cabaret tables.
